Welcome to the official website of the Barrier Industrial Unions' Band, Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. The BIU Band is currently in recess due to the COVID-10 Virus pandemic. If you would like to join us when we return, please contact our secretary, Steve Vine by emailing [email protected] and we will get in touch when we are ready to resume.
Broken Hill is a mining city in outback Western NSW with a long tradition of community brass banding since 1884. The BIU Band is the sole remaining brass band in the city. Currently we are involved in many community activities throughout the year. We have an active learners program and welcome new members and visitors.

Academy of Brass
The Academy of Brass is the band’s tuition programme for learners. Through this programme, we aim to teach not only how to play a brass instrument, but how to read music and play as part of an ensemble (or band).

Hall Hire
The BIU Band Hall is available for hire for one off functions or regular (eg. weekly) group meetings. Hire of the hall is now managed by the Broken Hill Council BIU Band Hall 355 Committee. See our Contact Us page
